St Bernard's Old Collegians Cricket Club Junior Academy 2017/18
About St Bernard’s OCCC
St Bernard’s OCCC is an Essendon based cricket club that plays in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA). The VSDCA is the second highest level of metropolitan cricket in the state and is seen as a platform for players to move onto Premier Cricket and then State Cricket (Victoria). We are the only Sub-District Club in the Essendon area with 5 senior sides and 10 junior sides. We also participate in the J.G Craig Under 15 representative cricket, which is watched by Cricket Victoria coaches for state selection.
What is the St Bernard’s OCCC Junior Academy?
The junior academy is a new concept that is designed to ‘fast track’ our junior players to propel them into our senior sides. We want to develop the next wave of First XI players to compete for finals success. The academy will be capped to ensure personalised coaching can be achieved. To be considered you must be playing in at least the Under 14 age group from the start of next season. Players aged 13-17 are encouraged to apply.
How does it work?
The club will appoint a mentor to work with the players throughout the 2017/18 season. You will receive personalised coaching aimed to enhance your skills. There will be an initial 3 winter sessions followed by fortnightly sessions during the season (October to March 8 sessions). Through club connections we will also invite ‘guest’ coaches to attend training to work with the boys. These guest coaches will be State and Premier cricketers.
Do I have to play for St Bernard’s?
It is expected that you make yourself available for senior selection at St Bernard’s (15years and over) during the season. If you play junior cricket elsewhere we will allow you to continue however you must be available for senior games in the afternoon. Ideally we would prefer you to play juniors as well. In some cases this cannot be helped (ie: AGS Saturday Sport).
As part of the program we will develop a senior plan for you. That means, working with the selection committee, club coach and club captains we will ensure that you have every chance to succeed at senior level. For example, if you are a batsman you will be given an opportunity at the top of the order, if you are a bowler you will be given an opportunity to bowl in the early stages. Academy players will not be making up numbers; we want our academy players performing and earning promotion into the higher grades on turf cricket.
Are there costs involved?
The cost of the program for the full season is $150 (This includes uniform and all coaching. Cost per session works out to be $15).
